Panic software coda 2.0
Plugins, scripting applescript and beyond are all utterly essential. Hopefully you guys have worked something out with Apple. OK, one quick question for Panic, and one for plugin developers: Will the Coda developers i. Will plugin developers switch to MAS, or will they stick to the individually licensed version directly from Panic?
Cheers guys! This was an awesome way to start my day this morning reading about Coda 2 and DietCoda in bed. Actually it looks like something from the future. Outstanding job! Will you continue to sell Coda directly from your website? What exact time will the sale start? I am in Spain and travelling to London that day and will be remiss to be excluded from the awesome price of this long awaited update. Will there be a setting to switch between active and passive mode for FTP?
I do it all the time, by having a CSS file in one split, and a web preview of another file in the other split. Sometimes I do three, with two CSS files normal and narrow, for responsive design, and a web preview next to them. Side-note: I always thought it would be awesome to be able to combine vertical and horizontal splits i.
Awesome about Coda 2. Does that mean a Stattoo release is imminent? Is it possible to drag the live preview tab to an external monitor, or is the preview pane locked as it is in Coda 1? I have been waiting to purchase Coda for many years due to pricing concerns mostly from my end and, with the launch of Coda2 on Thursday, my wait will finally be over.
Do you have finally added the ability to find all instead of only find next or replace all? Feature request: there are probably a million problems with this but I think it would be awesome if every time you used a new style in the html, that it would generate an empty selector in the linked CSS file.
Or something like that…. What about the new way to manage files on the local and the remote? For example the file browser, can this be triggered via a shortcut? What other changes or improvements can we expect for Quick Open?
I think a few of us still have unanswered questions about the MAS versus the non-MAS version, which is going to become very important tomorrow. Mine are:. You mentioned being grandfathered on the sandboxing deadline, but will this apply to future updates as one user put it, 2. If the versions split in the future if future updates are crippled because of MAS policies , will support be willing to provide a non-MAS license for MAS users, or will we have to re-buy?
Nobody has asked the most important question yet… When will the Coda 2 t-shirts be available? You have designed them, right? Been using Coda 1 since the beginning and always loved it.
These new apps look amazing. Panic is my fav software developer by far. Right now the MAS version has a slight advantage in its feature set. Really what we need is some guidance from Panic. Will they allow large discrepancies in the two feature sets? And if so, will one version take priority over the other?
Obviously the best option would be to allow MAS purchasers to also receive a license to the Panic-purchased version. MarsEdit does this.
MarsEdit MAS purchasers can also run the direct-download version of the software. I expect, after a short learning curve, that it will become every bit as much a part of my life as is Coda 1. Thank you Cabel and company. I guess ;. But on german, UK, etc.
Is iCloud sync is just for syncing across desktops? Editable address bar there would help…. Yet it still redirects to the coming soon page. Hopefully it blows my hair back! Any1 figure out. By the way, will the iCloud support syncing on Congrats… Excellent Job. Everything looks really amazing. Reading your tweets I saw Coda2 has some minor issues, but nothing really big, so for a first version everything looks really fantastic!
Congrats on that. But in future updates, I hope you guys make Preview available on second monitor, that would really be amazing. And one more thing… When can we expect screencasts? I know plenty of us know all coda functions, but there are some new ones, and of course, new users as well. But frenkly, I enjoyed your screencasts before and would love to see them again :.
Just bought Coda 2 and love it — I then went and bought Diet Coda on my iPad as I do my coding on a Macbook with a small screen and thought the AirPreview would be great as a second screen for previewing my development. It cannot find my iPad — both devices are connected to my works wifi. Do I need to use Bluetooth or something…? Bought DietCoda as soon as I woke up today. As for Coda 2, it took me some time to decide whether to go with MAS version or direct download and have finally decided to take the MAS route because of the iCloud synchronization.
That would be a killer feature set. I opted for the MAS because of iCloud. Now, I wonder if I did well, because of the future. Can you answer the questions that remained unanswered, please? It would be nice to find an easy way for a MAS customer to become a direct customer.
I just want to tell you that I am very new to blogs and truly savored this page. Yesterday, after 10 days of waiting in queue, we received notification that it has entered review. It has been in that state for approximately 24 hours. We have heard rumors that many of the review staff are at WWDC this week, making an already slow approval process even slower. I wish there was more we could do to speed things along, but this is simply the App Store process. It is almost as maddening for us as it is for those of you suffering crashes and waiting for an update.
Because this is such a bad situation, we are researching some ways we might be able to allow App Store customers to temporarily use direct versions while waiting for an update in the future. There are a few technical hurdles to get over first, not the least of which is the Apple-mandated feature disparity between the direct and App Store versions in particular, iCloud-related functionality.
Thanks again for your patience, and we hope 2. Hope the approval process speeds up and thanks for all that you do :D. I would have preferred to purchase coda 2 directly from panic, but panic activated the Mac App Store version first and all links to purchase Coda only pointed to the MAS for quite some time. I was worried about waiting to see if Panic put it on their store within 24 hours due to maybe forgetting and missing the generous although extremely short one day sale.
Thanks for the update and gentle reminder that our polite squeaks could possibly help Apple improve. However, when I knowingly bought the App Store version for iCloud support I also knew this is what I would have to deal with.
I absolutely regret getting it through the Mac App Store. If there was a way I could somehow cancel that purchase and get a non-MAS version…. In the end, it all balances out. I just went ahead and purchased another copy directly from you.
Thanks for the updates, Panic! I think Apple should allow certain trusted developers you certainly qualify to either bypass or speed through the review process. Thanks — it really helps to have an informative update like this.
I am waiting for a specific fix that comes in 2. Thanks for the great job that you do. I second everything Eric said above. Thanks for the update. And thanks fr making such amazing software!! Yeah, this was my concern when I was confronted with the choice between the app store version and the direct buy — I would have absolutely gone with the direct buy version, but the iCloud functionality was also a big draw.
Thanks a lot for the update though, it is greatly appreciated. And, is there a chance you could convert a MAS licence to a web version, by asking users to send their receipt file? I originally purchased the MAS version on launch day. I really needed the update, so I ended up buying another license non-MAS. Very nice work on Coda 2! Hello team, thanks for that. Coda 2. Coda 2 is my first App Store buy in my life, and my last!
Good luck. I just emailed apple and got a refund on the App store version. The person issuing the refund was aware of the delay which puzzled them and immediately issued my refund.
I then turned around and just purchased directly from Panic.. I bought the MAS version, and now I regret it for 2 reasons. One being the update speed, of course. That was a big mistake, apparently. I only blame myself for buying the MAS version, and if I could change it, move over to the web version, I would.
I understand if something like that is not possible, so no hard feelings either way. Thank you for the update. I urge others to do the same:. This is a new version of a popular product and was bound to have some bugs in the release. That proved true. The program regularly crashes on OSX Panic the software company that created Coda promptly issued a new version, Coda 2.
I severely regret my choice to buy this product from the App Store, especially since I could have purchased directly from Panic on their website.
I will never buy software from the App Store, given the option to do otherwise. And I will advise all others to do the same. Apple has really missed the mark on service when it comes to this and should be ashamed.
There is no value added in a draconian and slow system of approvals. Anyway, I bought Coda 2 some time ago and Code Editor. It kept crashing on me though, and the dev was very responsive at first on his site, then stopped responding. So I just basically abandoned it. Great performance, super lightweight, and none of the weird iOS limits?
For me personally, a powerful ssh terminal will allow me to do most of my work from anywhere. Jim yup. It was bought by Codesandbox which is a web version of just this and is proud my favorite prototype app for web projects. You can now clone sandboxes directly into play. I started a React project and ran it in a localhost on iPad in the integrated browser and it was great, no crashing.
Give it another try. I would love to see Panic resuming the development. Also using Prompt for iOS. I lost Status Board that way. The iPad is just getting started. It only just got trackpad support a little over a year ago and this has unlocked the option to use it without touching the display. This completely transforms what the iPad can be. Sure, web development has become a more and more framework thing and much more integrated solution thing. But if you look at trending development considerations, the zenith of framework based development exceeded.
Because it made it possible to develop crap quicker and more slim as ever. Did you ever develop in Java? Javascript was a big part of the web frontends and got more popular with node and collegues. Same thing. You had no other choice. Every serious developer I personally know turns his back to this kind of coding. Because it sucks. You have no freedom of choice and a huge overhead. Did you ever try to make a major version jump in Spring? Forget it. Sure, this is the apple universe.
And Apple pushes swift and playgrounds. This trend will. Apple opens iOS more and more. Not for external libraries but for using this little piece of new did you realize.. M1 on iPad? Look further. I have a VERY high opinion of panic and your tools. Fingers crossed. Will Prompt 3 be a paid upgrade? I would assume yes, which is fine.
